Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an overuse condition of the foot causing disorganization and irritation of the plantar fascia. It results from improper forces to the foot. Fallen arches can be a critical factor. The most common cause is tight calves. These muscles can create excessive plantar flexion, placing the person on his or her toes, which stresses the longitudinal muscles of the foot. This can occur from participating in sports, wearing high heels, trauma, weight gain and pregnancy. Pain is most commonly felt in the heel at the attachment of the plantar fascia to the calcaneus, but can also be found anywhere along the bottom surface of the foot. The pain is usually worse after rest, especially when getting out of bed in the morning. If left untreated, pain from plantar fasciitis can become excruciating.

Early treatment is essential in helping to prevent this.
